J-165A (1854 Copper Three-Leaf LFE)

According to the website of The Society of US Pattern Collectors, fewer than six
examples of the
J-165B exist. One resides in the Smithsonian Institution's National
Numismatic Collection.  No J-165Bs appear in the NGC census, and five appear in the
PCGS pop reports, a PCGS PR62BN, two PCGS PR63BNs, a PR64BN and the coin
pictured above, a PR66RB.  Previously unknown, this piece is 100% copper and will
appear in the next edition of the Judd book appropriately attributed as a J-165A.
Obviously, this coin is currently believed to be unique.  The Smithsonian piece has not
been tested, and one PR63BN and the PR64BN have tested out as a bronze,
confirming their status asJ-165Bs.  I suspect that the PR62BN recently upgraded to
PR63BN as the second PR63BN only recently appeared in the PCGS pop reports for
the first time.
